We cannot accomplish our goals without YOU! We need to raise awareness not only nationwide but worldwide as to what dyslexia is and how to help a child with dyslexia learn to read. Our nation's reading skills are not where they should be and we can make a difference!
Principals can bring in training.
Principals can approve and schedule the training specific to dyslexia for his/her staff. Start dialogue with this level and let's raise awareness and get started in proper remediation for over 11 million students with dyslexia!
Help our students.
Let's help our students find what they need in terms of organizing school papers, hardware and software programs, and help them feel better about themselves.
Read a book on dyslexia!
Help others visiting this site understand recommended reading on the topic of dyslexia. Read selected books and write a book review.
Read published research data.
There is a tremendous amount of information available to us. Find and read a research paper and prepare a review on it for the rest of us.
Read to children!
Volunteer to read stories to children of all ages - they love it! Classrooms teachers all across this nation are looking for parents to come into a classroom and read a story to the students. Even at the middle school level, kids LOVE to hear a story. The easiest place to read to a child is in your home. This builds a relationship with a child, increases their vocabulary and also helps them to understand how to read in terms of inflection and emphasis of syllables.
Participate in a webinar.
Participate in a webinar or event and write a summary of the session and give us your thoughts.
Webinars are popping up on all topics. General awareness to how to use technology to achieve reading are some that I'm seeing.
