BOOK REVIEW: Overcoming Dyslexia: A New and Complete Science-Based Program for Reading Problems at Any Level  by Dr. Sally Shaywitz, M.D.

When my daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia at age seven, I remember immediately gathering as much information as I could about a diagnosis that was truly very foreign to me. I think Overcoming Dyslexia is a great introductory read in that Shaywitz  explains the science behind dyslexia and then offers a pathway of hope. The book is rather easy and quick to read and gives one a nice foundation. She offers suggestions for accommodations at school near the end of the book that could and should be addressed during IEP meetings.  However, this is only one of many books you should expose yourself to regarding dyslexia and one that should be read early on.
